WATERCOOLER Second Cheapest Syndrome
“Restaurant owners will often price the wine they buy cheapest at wholesale as the second cheapest wine on the menu. Why? Presto — restauranteur as microeconomist!” (from a reference to an old WSJ article I can’t locate online)
